| Presently, many English-speaking young adults in ethnic churches have minimal participation in the vision and direction of the church. Furthermore, it is becoming increasingly clear that there is not one “right” model for such churches. There are many churches attempting to implement different models, with varying degrees of success. One thing that is clear, however, is that the second generation has grown up to be adults, and there is a definite need for the direction, expression, and implementation of God’s vision for the next generation into the 21st century. God continues to call some churches to the mission of first and second generations working together. However, we strongly believe that God is also calling for the planting of new churches that will allow the second generation to direct and implement their own vision, thereby giving them ownership of their ministry. ![]() This has been difficult to achieve because the vision of the first and second generation churches have different emphases. For example, the immigrant church has served well as a sort of “community center” to meet not only the spiritual but social needs of the first generation. The second generation, however, has more of a vision for transforming people and impacting society through a multicultural and diverse ministry. Furthermore, they have the language and education to carry it through, God-willing. Having grown up in metropolitan areas like Seattle, they have had much exposure and interaction with a variety of people. With a vision and background that differs from the first generation, new churches are needed to allow the new generation to express themselves and their calling. With this purpose in mind, Living Faith Community Church was begun in February 1997. |
